Forgery
The Forged Will
A dying man's will left everything to a distant cousin, until Cryer noticed that the witness signatures were written with the same damaged pen.
A new will appeared two days after Amos Reed died.
It left his estate to a cousin nobody had seen for years.
Cryer examined the document.
All three witness signatures showed the same unusual break in the ink.
One damaged pen had written them all.
The supposed witnesses had not signed independently.
The cousin confessed after Cryer found practice signatures in his lodgings.
The original will was recovered from a coal scuttle.
