The Whispering Well

Voices seemed to rise from an abandoned well, repeating the names of people who would soon disappear.

A farmer claimed the old well spoke names at night.

Cryer found the tale ridiculous.

Then he heard one.

"Marian."

Three days later, Marian Holt disappeared.

The next name was spoken before Cryer could record it.

"Arthur."

Arthur Mallory was standing beside him.

Nothing happened to Mallory.

But two weeks later, Cryer received a letter bearing only one word.

EDMUND.

He never returned to the well.
