Murder
The Silver Tooth
An unidentified murder victim was recognised not by his face, but by a silver tooth found beside the crime scene.
The victim's face had been badly damaged.
Identification seemed impossible.
Cryer found a silver tooth on the ground.
A local dentist recognised his work immediately.
The tooth belonged to a travelling bookmaker named Edwin Marsh.
Marsh's business partner claimed he had left town.
Cryer searched the partner's office and found blood beneath a loose floorboard.
The partner confessed after learning that the dentist had identified the tooth.
The murder had begun as an argument over gambling debts.
