The Child in the Photograph
A family photograph showed a child standing beside a couple who had never had children.
The Harwood family received a studio photograph taken for their anniversary.
Between husband and wife stood a small girl.
Neither had brought a child to the studio.
The photographer insisted the plate had been exposed only once.
Cryer visited the studio and found no explanation.
The girl appeared in one other photograph, taken by a previous owner eighteen years earlier.
The same pose.
The same dress.
The Harwoods destroyed their copy.
The photographer kept his.
Years later, the child was still there.
